Building Maine Communities–with community buildings
About Us Team
Denis Lachman has been passionate about the built environment forever. As a boy he was constantly building and disassembling things to understand them. Over decades of hands-on, he has built musical instruments, boats, furniture, log cabins plus residential and commercial structures. Later Denis expanded his passion for creating from objects to communities. Now he dedicates his skills in Architecture, Planning and Preservation to effect positive change–one building and one community at a time. Denis is a registered Maine architect with 30 years experience, holds a professional Architecture degree from the University of Oregon and is certified by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards. Denis also enjoys outdoor recreation, bike commuting, sketching, woodworking and family.
Kiya Smith is passionate about the natural environment, and how people interact with it. Growing up, she accompanied her extension agent father on his rounds to assist farmers and gardeners, and later she studied Landscape Architecture at the University of Oregon. As a landscape designer, master gardener and master naturalist, Kiya brings a broad and deep site-oriented perspective. All year-round Kiya can be found tending her urban farm; with an orchard, greenhouse, bees, growing and harvesting micro local produce from raised beds. She also enjoys exploring nature with her dog, singing, family and kayaking.
The core of Lachman Architects & Planners is augmented by other allied professionals as needed.
