The City Hall Clock Tower, downtown’s most prominent icon, is so symbolic that it appears with almost every City image. The stunning 1896 civic landmark by John Calvin Stevens was neglected for decades leading to substantial deterioration and leaking.
Phase 1: Assessment
In 2007 the City engaged Lachman Architects & Planners and Resurgence Engineering to assess the Tower’s declining physical condition and provide an opinion of the cost to repair it, in anticipation of issuing a bond for public approval.
Phase 2: Remedial Renovations
Over the winter of 2008-2009 the City engaged Lachman Architects & Planners and Resurgence again for remedial renovations. Working closely with Consigli Construction, repairs were made to (1) remove deteriorated falling debris causing a public safety hazard and (2) prevent further leaking.
Phase 3: Complete Restoration
It is intended that in the near future, funding will properly restore the Tower to its former glory.
