Historic Tax Credits Offset Rehabilitation Costs

With financial help from Historic Rehab Tax Credits the company of Duncklee & Nott is rehabilitating severely dilapidated 19 Central Street into company offices, The building has a treasured history in Hallowell, first as the longtime offices of Hallowell Granite Works and recently as the Brahms Mount’s textile mill and store.

Neglect and lack of maintenance over time have taken their toll and caused the building to suffer. These programs are a powerful economic revitalization tool and unprecedented opportunity for property owners to offset the often high cost of rehabilitating historic buildings – and thereby an incentive to reuse and rehabilitate these structures. Lachman Architects & Planners was engaged because of extensive and successful experience with HRTCs based on finding the common ground between sound historic preservation philosophy and practice on one hand, and meeting practical redevelopment and maintenance challenges on the other hand.
